Prickly pear seed oil
Pressed from the seeds of the Opuntia ficus-indica cactus, which grows across Morocco without irrigation and without fertiliser. Certified organic by ECOCERT and the USDA, virgin, first cold-pressed.
Why it costs what it costs
A single fruit carries between 150 and 300 seeds, and each seed is about 5 % oil. It takes roughly thirty kilos of dried seed — one tonne of fruit — to fill one litre. The fruit is picked by hand, the pulp washed away, the seeds dried in the sun, and only then pressed. That is the arithmetic, and it is the reason an oil that looks like any other costs several times more.
What is in it
Around 60 % linoleic acid — the fatty acid the skin uses to build its own barrier and cannot make itself. Over 1,000 mg of tocopherols (vitamin E) per kilo, about half as much again as argan oil, which is itself among the richest. Vitamin E is what protects the oil from turning, and what makes it worth pressing cold.
On the skin
The texture is dry: it sinks in within a minute and leaves nothing behind, which is why it suits a face at night. Skin holds its water better after a few weeks of it. It is a cosmetic, not a treatment.
How to use it
Two or three drops on damp skin, at night, after cleansing and toning. On hair, a few drops through the lengths as a conditioning treatment.
Where it comes from
Sourced from Moroccan Berber women’s cooperatives, and bottled in painted glass so that light does not reach the oil.

Effective for skin hydration, but I haven’t seen much improvement in dark circles yet. but the packaging is nice and protective of the oil, and I love the company spirit!
