Our organic certificates, and how to check them yourself

Our argan oil, prickly pear seed oil and rose water are certified organic by Ecocert, under both the European and the American standards. You do not have to take our word for it: both certificates are listed in Ecocert’s public directory, and the American one in the USDA’s own database. The links are below.

  • EU organic, Regulation 2018/848
  • USDA Organic, National Organic Program
  • Certified every year since 2015

What is certified

Three of the products in our shop, each listed by name on both certificates. The wording below is copied from the certificates, so you can match it line for line.

As written on each certificate
Product EU certificate USDA certificate
Argan oil, roasted and unroasted Huile d’argan torréfiée / non torréfiée Argan oil from roasted / unroasted almonds — 100% Organic
Prickly pear seed oil Huile de figue de barbarie Prickly pear seeds oil — 100% Organic
Rose water Eau de rose Rose water — 100% Organic

And the blends? The certificates list single ingredients, not blends. These three are made exclusively from those certified ingredients, with nothing else in the bottle: the makeup remover, certified organic rose water and argan oil; the face serum, certified organic argan oil and prickly pear seed oil; and The Two Oils, the two certified oils side by side in one box.

The European certificate

This is the certificate that allows organic products from Morocco to be sold as organic in the European Union. It is issued in TRACES, the European Commission’s own system. TRACES does not open every certificate to the public, so the place to check it is Ecocert’s directory, where it can be downloaded.

The USDA certificate

Why the European certificate looks like a form

If you have seen an older organic certificate from us, with the Ecocert logo across the top, the European one may look plain by comparison. It is meant to.

Until the end of 2024, certifiers outside the EU issued their own documents under standards recognised as equivalent. Since then, every organic certificate for a producer or exporter outside the Union follows a single model set by the European Commission, and is issued and stored in the Commission’s system. Same layout for everyone, same numbering, and a reference registered with the Commission.

That is a gain, not a loss: a document nobody is allowed to redesign is a document that is hard to fake convincingly. And you can still compare it with the copy Ecocert publishes in its own directory, rather than trusting the one we chose to show you.

Buying for a business? Every organic consignment entering the EU also needs its own certificate of inspection, issued in TRACES for that shipment. Ask us about it when you order.
